End 68 Hours of Hunger
What is End 68 Hours of Hunger?
It is a private, non-profit effort to confront the approximately 68 hours of hunger that some school children experience between the free lunch they receive at school on Friday afternoon to the free breakfast they receive at school Monday morning.
Their vision is to end childhood hunger in our communities by providing food for children Pre-K through Grade 6 in the Wolfeboro Children Center, Wolfeboro, Tuftonboro, Ossipee, Ossipee Headstart and Middleton communities, in the hope that no child goes hungry on the weekends.
A class was recently asked by a teacher what they would do if they had $100. One child wrote,
If I had $100, I would give it to my mother to buy food for us.
The food in each bag costs approximately $10. A lot of money? Sure. But without their weekend backpacks, thousands of children will go hungry for 68 hours each week. Every dollar helps.
